The Municipality of Udine and Arbolia, a benefit company born from a collaboration between the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Foundation and Snam, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the possible creation of urban forests in the city.
The five-year agreement, envisages the identification of lands that could be subject to possible afforestation projects in the municipal area, with the mutual agreement of the administration and the company, and Arbolia's subsequent presentation of a proposal for interventions through the methods identified in agreement with the Municipality, in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations.
Arbolia will take care of the search for financiers and sponsors for the afforestation initiatives and, once the projects have been defined, of the planting of trees and shrubs of native species on the identified land. Arbolia will also guarantee the maintenance of the forest for the next two years, at the end of which the maintenance and management of the new green area will be handled directly by the Municipality of Udine.
"With the signing of this memorandum of understanding with Arbolia - commented the Mayor of Udine Pietro Fontanini - we intend to create two real urban woods in the city, one on the land of the former Caserma Piave and the other where Cascina Mauroner stood, not only recovering these areas of the city which have been abandoned for decades and making them family-friendly, with positive effects also on the respective neighborhoods, but also taking an important step towards achieving the goal of making Udine, which is the first city in Friuli Venezia Giulia and the third in Italy to carry out this kind of intervention, a model in the safeguard and development of green areas and environmental sustainability".
"The protocol with the Municipality of Udine - added Salvatore Ricco, managing director of Arbolia - is our first initiative in Friuli Venezia Giulia and we hope to be able to carry out as soon as possible the preliminary checks on the land on which to carry out forestation projects. Arbolia's goal is to create new green belts in Italian cities by planting trees and supporting administrations in the process of decarbonization, for the benefit of communities and the country".
